WBC wins in the Supreme Court: Snyder v. Phelps
Today, March 2 2011, the United States Supreme Court ruled 8 to 1 in favor of protecting the Westboro Baptist Church's right to protest the funeral of Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, United States Marine Corps.

The dissenting opinion of Justice Antonin Scalia, a traditionally conservative (that is, right wing) judge, can be found on Page 23 of the above PDF link. It is a glimmer of hope in the legal fight against Westboro Baptist Church.
Legally, it was inevitable for the Westboro Baptist Church to win this case.
This is unfortunate in some ways and excellent in others. The Supreme Court demonstrated a strong loyalty to the free speech precedents set under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, which in this case benefits WBC, but in many other cases, assists the causes united against the WBC.
